Generalized life cycle of Zygomycota. Asexual reproduction occurs primarily through mitotically produced sporangiospores. The only diploid (2N) phase in the life cycle is the zygospore, produced through the conjugation of compatible gametangia during the sexual cycle (see Figure 2A, B).
