A rare lowland and premontane forest species ranging from Costa Rica to western Ecuador. Hall (2005) suggests that the species participates in a mimicry ring with a variety of other riodinid species (Hades noctula, Necryia ingaretha, Necyria duellona, Esthemopsis clonia, Thisbe ucubia and Setabis alcmaeon, as well as the arctiine moth Hypocrita aletta.Other Names for Voltinia radiata described in Esthemopsis; type species of Voltinia
